Two W. E. Johns stories were published in this magazine.  The Spy Flyers was published between 18th March 1933 and 3rd June 1933 and Biggles’ South Sea Adventure was published between 14th Oct 1939 and 9th Dec 1939.

THE THRILLER

All six of W. E. Johns “Steeley” stories were published in this magazine between 8th August 1936 and 30th October 1937.

 

THE WAR THRILLER

W. E. Johns published “Storm Troop of the Baltic Skies” (Biggles in the Baltic) in the eleven issues of this magazine that were published between 9th March 1940 and 18th May 1940.

 

AIR STORIES

W. E. Johns wrote for nine issues of this magazine.  The first three contained a serialisation of the first “Steeley” story “Sky High” and then the next six issues contained seven short stories.  These were all published between Jan 1936 and March 1940.

 

 

COLLINS MAGAZINE

W. E. Johns published “Biggles in Arabia” (Another Job for Biggles) in seven monthly issues of this magazine between February 1950 and August 1950.

 

JUNIOR MIRROR

W. E. Johns had four different Biggles books serialised in highly abridged versions in this children’s newspaper.  The books were “Biggles Foreign Legionnaire”, “Biggles in Australia”, “No Rest for Biggles” and “Biggles Takes Charge”.  They were all published between 1st September 1954 and 29th February 1956.

 

RANGER - THE BOY’S MAGAZINE

W. E. Johns wrote ten articles for the first ten issues of this magazine which were re-writes of stories from the 1962 book “The Biggles Book of Treasure Hunting”.  Then the 1938 book “Champion of the Main” was serialised in the next ten issues.  These first twenty issues were published between 18th Sept 1965 and 29th January 1966.

 

 

LOOK AND LEARN

W. E. Johns book “Biggles and the Lost Sovereigns” was serialised in seven monthly issues of this magazine between 10th August 1963 and 21st September 1963.   The book was significantly abridged.  There was also an article about the author published in an earlier issue dated 2nd March 1963.

 

 

THE EAGLE

W. E. Johns published two different Biggles books in serialised form in this magazine.  The books were “Biggles in the Blue” and “Biggles in the Gobi”.  They were published from 20th March 1953 until 20th Nov. 1953.

 

EXPRESS WEEKLY

W. E. Johns published “Biggles Forms a Syndicate” in the first ten issues of this magazine that were published between 30th January 1960 and 2nd April 1960.

 

TV EXPRESS WEEKLY

W. E. Johns published “Biggles Goes Home” in the ten issues of this magazine that were published between 21st May 1960 and 23rd July 1960.  There was then a Biggles Comic strip that ran from issue 306 to issue 376.

 

 

THE ANNUALS

W. E. Johns had numerous short stories (mainly Biggles) published in various annuals from the 1930s to the 1960s.

BRITANNIA AND EVE

This monthly magazine originally ran between May 1929 and January 1957.   I know W. E. Johns’ work appeared in at least EIGHT issues in 1941 and 1942 and it may have also appeared in other issues around that time.

 

PEARSON’S MAGAZINE

Between May and November 1939 W. E. Johns wrote a monthly article in this magazine called “What Men are Talking About”.  Additionally, the first two stories from Dr. Vane Answers the Call” were also published in this magazine before it closed down due to wartime paper shortages in November 1939.

 

20 STORY MAGAZINE

This monthly magazine originally ran between July 1922 and October 1940.  W. E. Johns’ work appeared in nine issues, mainly in 1940, from February 1940 to September 1940 (excluding June 1940 for some strange reason).  The 1940 issues contained seven stories from “Dr Vane Answers the Call”.

 

WINGS (QUARTERLY)

This magazine was published every three months but only ran to four issues.  W. E. Johns had work published in all four issues.

This was the ‘British Edition’ of the Australian comic that only ran to NINE issues – published in the 1950s.

W. E. Johns wrote two articles for this magazine.  They were published in the March 1936 and June 1936 issues.
