BIGGLES FLIES AGAIN
THE BOYS FRIEND LIBRARY PUBLICATION
Number 630 Cover dated 7th July 1938
This book was originally published as a first edition
by John Hamilton in August
1934.
The story was serialised in The Modern Boy in eight
parts, from issue 377, dated 27th April 1935
to issue
384, dated 15th June 1935.
The story Fair Cargo was NOT published in The Modern Boy
amongst
those eight parts, but that chapter IS published in this Boys Friend Library
version of the book.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE?
This publication ran to 100 pages if you count the
front cover as page 1 and the back page as page 100
Although it was actually numbered from the inner first
page to the inner last page as pages 1 to 96
(The cover
itself was unnumbered but previous issues had referred to those pages i, ii, iii and iv. This issue didn t.)
I obtained my Boy s Friend Library version of Biggles Flies
Again on Thursday 28th January 2016,
As so few people have actually seen a copy of this, I
have put some photos up to show what it was really like
The inner front cover looked like this.
The frontispiece used here was a larger version of the
small illustration of Biggles often used in the The Modern Boy
Biggles Flies Again only ran until page 74. From page 75 onwards there was a story called
Sky Hawks!
The author is uncredited. Could this be W.E. Johns?? The story does make reference to Biggles
See the highlight below.
Sky Hawks ran to page 94 (with a final part on page
96). On pages 95 and 96 was an article
called Tornadoes!
On the rear back cover was an advert for three other
editions of The Boys Friend Library .
And finally, the back cover itself looked like this
